The College of Medical Instrumentation is the leading unit in the construction of the key discipline of Intelligent Science and Technology for the Shanghai Local High-Level Universities Construction Project. In response to the strategic opportunities of the new industrial revolution and the major strategic demands in “Bio-Medicine as a Leading Industry”, “Manufacturing Power”, and “Healthy China Initiatives”, the College of Medical Instrumentation continuously refines its demand-driven talent development and discipline systems, advancing the development of Healthy New Engineering. The College focuses on the demand for professional talents in medical device and medical product safety management, it implements action plans for cultivating excellent clinical engineers and medical instrumentation engineers, and vigorously promoting the development of application-oriented, cross-disciplinary talents in healthcare and engineering fields.
The College has established a comprehensive talent development system spanning associate degree, undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels, along with a unique five-in-one talent development model that integrates education, industry, healthcare, regulation, and research. The College offers joint master's and doctoral training programs in Biomedical Engineering and Control Science and Engineering, as well as joint master's training programs in Electronic Information and Medical Technology. Undergraduate programs include Biomedical Engineering, Clinical Engineering Technology, Data Science & Big Data Technology, and Medical Product Adiministration. Additionally, the College provides a Medical Integrated Circuits Micro-Term Program, and a Sino-Japanese cooperative higher vocational education program in Medical Device Maintenance and Management.
The college has 88 faculty members, including 64 full-time teaching staff, among whom 10 hold senior professional titles and 12 hold deputy senior professional titles, with 30 faculty members serving as advisors for master’s and doctoral students. The college's honorary president is an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Additionally, the college has one faculty member selected for the National 10,000 Talents Program - Young Talents, one recognized as a Shanghai Academic Research Leader, and one recognized as an Oriental Talent. In the past five years, the college has undertaken over 10 national projects and more than 60 provincial and ministerial projects, achieving the commercialization of nine patents with total revenues exceeding 2 million yuan.

Building on over 60 years of expertise in professional disciplines, the college is evolving from traditional medical device engineering toward an innovative and sustainable focus in medical device and equipment engineering. It is continuously moving towards the AI + direction, establishing the strongest professional brand in teaching and research strength among similar institutions in China, writing a new chapter as the Whampoa Military Academy for Medical Device Engineers.
